Open source is for people who don’t want to make money
Note this wasn’t in reference to creating open source solutions, but about using open source to power your business (specifically at the database level).
Who wants to prove the above wrong?
One of the biggest and most sound businesses in Denmark (with divisions all over the world) runs SAP R/3 with MySQL as the database platform. If that is not enterprise level usage of open source software, I don't know what is.
Ignorantis. Apache is powering half the web sites on the internet. I gather at least one or two of them has something to do with business.
It's even more funny, though. Making money is about maximizing the diff between income and expenses. With open source software, you spend less money on expensive licensees, so your costs are lower. Hence, there's a perfectly valid argument to be made that users of open source software are thinking more about making money than the drones filling the coffers of Microsoft and its ilk.
