Seeing how I am currently playing through Final Fantasy VII to finally finish a game I first played 6 years ago and have restarted playing 6 or 7 times since, the news of a coming Final Fantasy movie are pretty interesting.

The coming full length movie, Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children, apparently picks up where the game ends, and is - like the previous Final Fantasy movie - going to be fully CG animated. The trailers look great and several characters from the game reappear.
Here’s hoping that they manage to make the story vastly more interesting than the one in The Spirits Within, but building on the story from the game should provide a great foundation for making a movie that is more than simply overdimensioned swords and excessive visual effects.
I really liked the GFX for Spirits Within, but i hated the storyline..i honestly thought it was going to be good- but i think (from gamers perspective) they failed terriably.
If they want to make a movie..why not re create FFX, then have a sequel FFX-2..then we’d be able to see more of Riku and Yuna..plus i think that the FFX storyline/graphics/everything was the shiznit, probaly one of the best games i’ve ever played.

I haven’t had the pleasure of playing FFX or FFX-2, but I think you’re right. Riku and Yuna should be able to lure at least a few people to the cinema ;)
I only played a little bit of X and none of X-2, but both of those games were movies anyway, and not revolutionary from a gaming standpoint. Final Fantasy VII though was extremly revolutionary, using a new breed of technology never before used, and including a story-line that players could fall into, and actually feel a part of. Not to meantion that Sephiroth (the game’s villian) is without question the best villian squaresoft has ever created, and the most powerful (don’t believe me consult the Kingdom Hearts Guide). The simple fact is that even today a copy of Final Fantasy VII is hard to come by, while X and X-2 are reletivly easy to find.
